In October 2013 the number of ISAF was 87 000 troops (including 60 000 of Americans). More than 50 countries participate in the mission. The U.S. President Barack Obama claimed that to the end of 2014 all American troops would leave Afghanistan and military campaign would finish.
In June 2013 Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai announced that in 2013 Afghan troops would assume the primary role in ensuring the country’s security. At the moment total number of Afghan army and internal forces counts 330 000.
On October 10, 2013 the UN Security Council unanimously approved Afghanistan resolution which extended the authorization of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) until December 31, 2014.
